New Zeland Maori Teko Teko Moana Tribal Ancestor Woodcarving

Carving measures approximately five inches in height. The figure represents an ancient tribal ancestor. The figure is depicted in a fighting stance with protruding tongue and holding a green stone club or Patu Pounamu. The wood carving still has some remnants of red paint on the tongue and green paint on the stone club. The carving shows wear and some damage due to age. The sides are decorated with incision patterns carved on the wood. Age of manufacture is unknown.
